Another Great Meeting-Another Great Book Choice!

Our book club meeting on Saturday was really good as usual. We had a full group, including a new member-Welcome Sandy! I was just telling Lucie the other day-if we get any bigger, we may have to start looking for another place to meet. THAT is a good thing! Lucie and I are so excited! It is so nice to read a book and then get together with friends and discuss the book together. That is exactly what The Chick Lit Book Club does. We also get the chance to interview the authors from time to time, and we consider that a real privilege! You know what makes it even more special? The authors consider it a real privilege to be interviewed by us as well! I love that!
The next book selection is one that I have been hearing nothing but GREAT things about. It is "Redeeming Love" by Francine Rivers. I have already started reading and I am looking forward to diving deeper into this new adventure.
Here is a little description of what the book is about....

California’s gold country, 1850. A time when men sold their souls for a bag of gold and women sold their bodies for a place to sleep. Angel expects nothing from men but betrayal. Sold into prostitution as a child, she survives by keeping her hatred alive. And what she hates most are the men who use her, leaving her empty and dead inside. Then she meets Michael Hosea. A man who seeks his Father’s heart in everything, Michael Hosea obeys God’s call to marry Angel and to love her unconditionally. Slowly, day by day, he defies Angel’s every bitter expectation until, despite her resistance her frozen heart begins to thaw. But with her unexpected softening come overwhelming feelings of unworthiness and fear. And so Angel runs. Back to the darkness, away from her husband’s pursuing love, terrified of the truth she can no longer deny: Her final healing must come from the One who loves her even more than Michael Hosea does…the One who will never let her go. A life-changing story of God’s unconditional, redemptive, all-consuming love.

I hope you will pick up a copy of this book and join us at our next meeting on April 30th at Starbucks.
We will be reading half for the month of April and the remaining half for the month of May-because the book is so thick, and we don't want to rush through it.
Happy Reading**
Deborah

I came within 40 pages of reading the book in one day!
When I first started, it didn't seem like your usual Christian fiction novel, I was actually questioning if this really was the book we were to read. I kept at it knowing that you had a reason for choosing it, and it is definatley a good read. It is interesting how most of the characters seem to be placed in two catagories: wonderfully accepting and pure evil. There are a few that fall in between, including Angel, who has learned over and over again to distrust everyone. She sure has a tough time overcoming that; it took her 430 pages! It is a great reminder lesson to all of us not to not judge others, and that even those who seem to be determined to stay lost can be brought around to the Lord. Michael, through the strength of Jesus, had the patience to give Andgel the love and tenderness she had needed her entire life. It is nice to see him crying out to the Lord over and over, asking and confirming what has been asked of him; and for the tools needed to do His will.
A great story for the adult audience.

Oops, I don't know how to edit the comment I already posted. I meant 'not to judge' instead of 'not to not judge.' ;-)
